Hi. I am Billie, Stacie's mother. Stacie started this page a couple years ago but doesn't have anything to do with it now as she sees no hope for surgery. Stacie was denied when she was 15-1/2 for lap-band because our Insurance company says it will only pay for the most effective form of bariatric surgery and they state that it is the Gastric Bypass. And they will only pay for that when Stacie is 18 or older. Stacie will have graduated before she turns 18 and will no longer be covered under my insurance plan.
I am more than willing to self pay but do not have the $20,000 - $23,000 I have been quoted by three surgeons in our area. I am looking for a more cost effective location and am willing to travel as long as the surgeon is reputable. Stacie is a beautiful 16 year old who has never had a boyfriend, a best friend, or self esteem. I hate what she is missing out on just because she is overweight. I am extremely worried about her future health as diabetes runs in our family. I really want this for her as much as she wants it.

I did not meet Dr. Aceves until my surgery was already scheduled and I went to Mexico. He was very warm and caring. His staff is very well trained and waits on you hand over fist to make sure you are comfortable and all your needs are met. If I was told anything once, I were told three to four times. They made sure that I was very well informed from beginning to end! I would hear it from a nurse, the surgical nurse, the aftercare nurse, and from the Doctor. If you leave there not knowing something, it is because you wasn't listening. I can't say enough about Dr. Aceves and his staff. They are first class people!
